Shri Ganesh Puja
Worship of the remover of obstacles — the start of every auspicious work
About this puja
Shri Ganesh puja is the puja performed first, before every undertaking. Ganpati Bappa is worshipped as Vighnaharta — the remover of all obstacles. In the Vedic tradition, Ganesh puja is essential before any auspicious event — griha pravesh, a wedding or starting a business. Bappa is worshipped with the sixteen offerings (shodashopachar): abhishek, ornaments, incense, lamp and naivedya, followed by recitation of the Ganesh Atharvashirsha. After this puja of about an hour and a half, positive energy fills the home and every task goes ahead without hindrance.
