About this puja
In Maharashtra, during Ganeshotsav in Bhadrapad, the elder and younger Gauris (Mahalakshmi) come home. It is a three-day ritual: the welcome (avahan) on the first day, the sixteen-step puja and a grand naivedya of sixteen vegetables on the second, and the farewell (visarjan) on the third. The purohit performs the avahan and the main puja with the proper mantras.
