About this puja
Mundan is one of the sixteen Hindu sanskars, done in the child’s first or third year. The hair the child was born with is removed so that new hair can grow; the scriptures say this removes past-life defects. After the mundan, gomutra and then sandalwood and turmeric are applied to the head. Performing it at a holy place brings special merit, but purohits can also perform it fully at home with pure Vedic chanting.
