About this puja
Upanayan, also called munj or the thread ceremony, is one of the most sacred Hindu sanskars, performed between the ages of 7 and 11. On this day the boy wears the yajnopavit (sacred thread) and is initiated into the Gayatri mantra. The rite includes the brahmachari asking for bhiksha, the resolve to go to the guru for study, and learning the daily practices.
