Meaning
This aarti by Sant Eknath is sung on Thursdays, on Datta Jayanti and at every puja of Dattatreya.
1. Know Datta as the one form of the three — Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. This incarnation of the three qualities is king of the three worlds. Even the Vedas, which can only say "not this, not this", cannot grasp him; gods, sages and yogis cannot hold him in meditation.
Refrain: Victory to you, Shri Gurudatta. As we wave your aarti, the worries of worldly life are gone.
2. Outside and within, you alone are Datta. How could an unfortunate person understand this? Where even the highest speech turns back, what purpose remains? By your grace the cycle of birth and death has ended.
3. Datta came and stood before me. With true devotion I bowed down fully. Pleased, he blessed me and freed me from the round of birth and death.
4. I was absorbed in the meditation of "Datta, Datta"; the mind dissolved into stillness. The sense of "I" and "you" was gone. Eknath says: by the grace of his guru Janardan, he is absorbed in Shri Datta.
