Meaning
This Hindi aarti by Shivanand Swami is sung all over India on Mondays, in the month of Shravan and on Mahashivratri. It teaches that Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are three forms of the one Om.
Refrain: Victory to you, Shiva, the form of Om — Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiv, who holds Parvati as half of his body.
1. Your forms with one face (Vishnu), four faces (Brahma) and five faces (Shiva) shine; the swan, Garuda and the bull are their mounts.
2. These forms with two, four and ten arms are most beautiful; seeing these three forms, the people of all three worlds are enchanted.
3. You wear rudraksha beads, a forest garland and a garland of skulls; you destroyed Tripura and Kamsa; you hold a rosary in your hand.
4. Dressed in white, in yellow silk and in a tiger skin; accompanied by the sage Sanaka and others, by Garuda and by the spirits.
5. Holding a water pot, a discus and a trident; giver of happiness, remover of sorrow and protector of the world.
6. The ignorant think Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiv are separate, but in the syllable Om the three are one.
7. Shivanand Swami says: whoever sings this aarti of the lord of the three qualities gains happiness and wealth.
