Meaning
Composed by Pandit Shardha Ram Phillauri around 1870, this is the most widely sung aarti in India; it closes almost every puja.
Refrain: Victory to you, Hari, Lord of the world. You remove the troubles of your devotees and servants in an instant.
1. Whoever meditates on you receives the reward: sorrow leaves the mind, happiness and wealth come home and bodily suffering ends.
2. You are my mother and father; in whom else should I take refuge? Without you there is no one else to hope in.
3. You are the complete Supreme Soul who knows every heart; you are the Supreme Brahman, the highest God and the lord of all.
4. You are an ocean of compassion and the protector of all. I am a fool who desires rewards; I am the servant and you are the master — have mercy, O sustainer.
5. You are the One, beyond the senses, lord of every life. O merciful one, how can a foolish mind like mine reach you?
6. Friend of the humble and remover of sorrow, you are my lord and protector. Raise your hand and take me under your shelter — I lie at your door.
7. Remove the cravings of the senses and take away sin, O God; increase faith, devotion and service of the saints.
8. Body, mind and wealth — everything is yours. I offer you what is already yours; what of it is mine?
