Meaning
This traditional Hindi aarti is sung all over India on Janmashtami and in the daily puja of Shri Krishna.
Refrain: Aarti to Krishna who roams the groves of Vrindavan, Shri Giridhar who lifted the mountain, Krishna Murari.
1. The Vaijayanti garland is at his neck and he plays sweet music on the flute. Earrings sparkle in his ears; he is Nanda's joy, Nandalal. His skin is dark like the sky, and Radhika shines beside him. Standing among the creepers in a forest garland — curls like bees, a musk tilak, a glow like the moon — the lovely form of Radha's beloved.
2. A golden peacock-feather crown shines on him; even the gods long to see him. Flowers rain from the sky, the murchang and mridang play, and the gopis rejoice with him.
3. From his feet the Ganga appeared — the Ganga who charms every heart, whose remembrance breaks delusion, who lives in Shiva's matted hair and washes away the mud of sin — such is the beauty of the feet of the forest-dweller.
4. The sand on the Yamuna bank glitters and the flute plays in Vrindavan. Gopis, cowherds and cows are all around. He smiles gently, moonlight spreads, and hearing the cry of the humble and suffering, he cuts the bonds of worldly life.
