Meaning
This traditional Hindi aarti is sung all over India at Lakshmi Puja in Diwali and on Fridays.
Refrain: Victory to you, Mother Lakshmi. Vishnu and Brahma serve you day and night.
1. Uma, Rama and Brahmani — you alone are the mother of the world. The sun and moon meditate on you and the sage Narada sings your praise.
2. You are the pure form of Durga and the giver of happiness and wealth. Whoever meditates on you gains prosperity, success and riches.
3. You dwell even in the underworld and you give auspicious results. You reveal the fruit of our actions and carry us across the ocean of worldly life.
4. In the home where you live, every virtue arrives; everything becomes possible and the mind is free of worry.
5. Without you no sacrifice can be performed and no one gets clothing; all the wealth of food and drink comes from you.
6. You are a beautiful temple of good qualities, born from the Ocean of Milk; without you no one obtains the fourteen jewels that came from the churning of the ocean.
7. Whoever sings this aarti of Mahalakshmi is filled with joy and freed from sin.
