Meaning
This traditional Hindi aarti is sung on Vasant Panchami, at the start of a child's education and at the Saraswati puja during Navratri.
Refrain: Victory to you, Mother Saraswati, rich in the splendour of virtue and famous in all three worlds.
1. Moon-faced, seated on a lotus, radiant and auspicious; the sacred swan is your mount and your brilliance is beyond compare.
2. A veena in your left hand and a rosary in your right; a jewelled crown on your head and a string of pearls at your neck.
3. You uplifted all who came to you for refuge. (In the Ramayana) you entered the mind of the maid Manthara, and through that Ravana was destroyed.
4. O giver of learning and knowledge, fill us with the light of knowledge; remove delusion, ignorance and darkness from the world.
5. Mother, accept this incense, lamp, fruit and dry fruit; give us the eyes of knowledge and uplift the world.
6. Whoever sings this aarti of Mother Saraswati gains knowledge and devotion that bring good and happiness.
